Jockey Club Creative Arts Centre (JCCAC) will welcome in the Year of the Dragon at L2 Terrace and L1 Public Area throughout February with a large paper art installation plus 40+ Lanterns with Riddles designed by resident artists. Visitors can join in creative workshops with a festive twist - including Spring Couplet Printmaking Workshop and Natural Indigo Dyeing Calendar Workshop by Dyelicious - to bring home with joy and good luck their own uniquely crafted Lunar New Year decorations to celebrate the Year of the Dragon!

Art Installation by Lau Ming Hang
Celebrating the unique courtyard layout of the old industrial building that houses JCCAC, To dance with joy, and set your spirit free, a large installation - marrying Chinese paper-cutting style with iconic Hong Kong cultural elements - by the award-winning stage lighting designer and paper art artists Lau will be featured at the L2 terrace. Like the festive dragon it symbolises blessing for the arts village and all who visit it.

Artist: Lau Ming-hang, a well-known Pop-up Book Theatre Creator, Paper Artist and Theatre Lighting Designer. Lau directed and created numerous works during these 10 years which combines three-dimensional paper-cutting, light and shadow, and theatre performance aesthetics, his works include Ordinary Living and Dance Me to the Trees. Lau has been nominated Best Lighting Design at the Hong Kong Drama Awards, and his design works include The Three Sisters by Theatre du pif, Bird-Watching by Rebecca Wong and We are for real by No Discipline Limited. He was a board member of HKATTS while he served as the curator of the Prague Quadrennial Exhibition of Scenography and Theatre Architecture in 2019 and 2023. His paper-cut works have been exhibited in Hsin Chu City Art Site of Railway Warehouse, TST Stories by YMCA The Dooor and Artspace K.
Spring Couplet Printmaking Workshop
Learn about printmaking through the workshop which gives you hands on experience in letterpress printing in Pearlescent Paper and screen printing. Grab the chance to design and make your own spring couplet for adding a festive touch to your home decoration during the Chinese New Year celebrations!

Natural Indigo Dyeing Calendar Workshop by Dyelicious
This workshop offers you the experience of indigo dyeing with natural dyes instead of industrial paint. By creating your own indigo handkerchief with screen printing 2024 calendar, experience the joy of traditional dyeing and the blessing of new year.

Lantern Riddles
Around 40 festive lanterns decorated by JCCAC resident artists and each with a festive riddle will be on show in the L1 Public Area from Chinese New Year’s Eve right through to Chinese Valentine’s Day on the 24th - when the first full moon of the lunar calendar officially marks the beginning of spring.
