In 1992, Hong Kong became the fifth Asian chapter of the IATC. Since its establishment, the IATC(HK) has been actively promoting theatre criticism in Hong Kong, through activities such as publishing various materials, and participation in international conferences and cultural exchange programmes. Over the years, IATC(HK) has become the most representative organization in performing arts criticism in Hong Kong.

In recognition of this, the Hong Kong Arts Development Council (HKADC) has been financially supporting the administrative operations of IATC(HK) since 1998. Also, IATC(HK) has established partnerships and networks with local and Asian performing arts organizations. IATC(HK) has completed nearly 40 projects on theatre criticism, such as research and publication projects, seminars and educational schemes. Over the years, IATC(HK) has published over 100 titles on various disciplines of the performing arts. IATC(HK) is currently one of the arts organizations receiving three-year grants from HKADC.
